Understaning Tinnitus: This module examines the condition that is tinnitus. It provides essential learning for health professionals, as it can impact individuals of all ages and health statuses. In fact, health professionals may be the first point of contact for many people with tinnitus.
You, as a health professional, may feel that in your role, there aren’t many actions you can take in treating tinnitus. Due to the large nature of this topic, you may feel overwhelmed when patients ask you about it, not knowing where to start. But with an understanding of the key elements of tinnitus, you can be of great help to your patients.
Recognising and understanding tinnitus and its impact on one’s life is crucial in supporting tinnitus patients and giving them hope. Support in this condition is often fundamental in its management, but unfortunately, those with tinnitus often don’t get the support they need.
The module will equip health professionals with the knowledge to understand the many causes of tinnitus, through examination of the physiology underlying this condition. The complexity of tinnitus means that this module cannot cover every cause or aspect of the condition. However, this module aims to prepare health professionals for potential questions about tinnitus and to help them support their patients by providing a solid understanding of the issue.
Before you begin, we recommend that you have completed The Ear: Anatomy and Physiology course to ensure that you have a base level of knowledge and understanding of the ear. A brief anatomy overview is also provided at the beginning of this course.
